Joanne O'Rourke Hindman

Joanne O'Rourke Hindman is a seasoned executive with an extensive background in finance, information technology, general management and business strategy. In recent years she has held high-level executive positions with software development, e-commerce, telecommunications and communications companies, as well as with a major national nonprofit organization. Ms. Hindman blends extensive entrepreneurial and start-up experience with in-depth business and financial expertise in more traditional "old" economy businesses. With almost thirty years experience, first in public accounting and then in financial and SEC reporting for public companies, she has a comprehensive knowledge of both sides of the financial reporting equation. Not only has she played an integral part in preparing companies for the public marketplace, but she has also served in key executive roles for several companies ranging in size from $10 million to $2 billion in annual revenues. In addition to serving as a chief financial officer, Ms. Hindman has also held numerous operating positions including chief executive officer, chief operating officer, chief information officer and general manager.
Prior to her current position as Special Advisor at the PCAOB, Ms. Hindman served as President and CEO of Roundtable Advisors, Inc., a consulting practice that she founded in 2001 specializing in financial reporting governance and offering advisory services primarily to audit committees of publicly traded companies by providing guidance in best practices and assistance in complying with the requirements of the Sarbanes-Oxley Act of 2002. Ms. Hindman spent the majority of her career with The Washington Post Company, where she advanced from the position of Director of Financial Reporting, responsible for the company's financial reporting and SEC filings, to serve as the top financial officer of Newsweek magazine, a subsidiary of the Washington Post. Notably, during her tenure at Newsweek, Ms. Hindman was also appointed General Manager of Newsweek InterActive where, as a pioneer in the new media industry, she led Newsweek's entrance into online and multimedia publishing - thereby positioning Newsweek to become one of the first to venture into electronic publishing.
Ms. Hindman has also served as Executive Vice President of Operations for the American Red Cross, where she was responsible for Biomedical Services, Chapter Services, Disaster Recovery, Finance, Accounting, Internal Audit, Information Technology and Human Resources. In addition, Ms. Hindman was responsible for the development and implementation of an e-commerce strategy for the entire American Red Cross organization. Ms. Hindman has also served as the chief executive officer for a software developer and as the chief financial officer for several telecommunications, new media, software development and internet-related organizations.
Ms. Hindman is a certified public accountant with significant public accounting experience including positions held at PricewaterhouseCoopers, where she served as an audit manager. Ms. Hindman currently serves as president of the Capital Area Chapter of the National Association of Corporate Directors and also serves as a member of the board. Additionally, she has recently authored a case study and numerous expert commentaries for the AICPA's recent project on ethics in accounting and is a frequent speaker on ethics in financial reporting, audit committee effectiveness and the Sarbanes-Oxley Act of 2002.
