Caren Braun Backus
Managing Director, AH&T Insurance
Ms. Backus is a seasoned broker in the commercial insurance business, with a specialization in helping clients secure management liability lines such as Directors & Officers, Venture Capital, Errors & Omissions, Intellectual Property and Employment Practices liability coverage. She currently serves as Managing Director at AH&T Insurance in Virginia, an employee-owned insurance brokerage and risk management consulting firm with offices on both coasts. Previously a Vice President at the NASDAQ Insurance Agency, part of the NASDAQ Stock Market, she was responsible for all operational and brokerage activities for the Mid-Atlantic branch office in Rockville, Maryland.
Formerly in Boston, Ms. Backus led the New England branch office of InsureHiTech.com, a venture backed insurance procurement start up. Prior to InsureHiTech, she launched and managed a nationwide law firm Professional Liability insurance program at Willis for St. Paul Insurance Company. In her native town of Chicago, she spent several years underwriting D&O Liability insurance for CNA with a subsidiary of AON, and then went on to help start the Minet Chicago office which specialized in placing Professional Liability insurance for law and accounting firms. Prior to AON, she was a Credit Analyst at a large Chicago commercial bank. A Cum Laude graduate of Texas Christian University, Ms. Backus holds a B.B.A. in Finance, is a Registered Professional Liability Underwriter of the Professional Liability Underwriting Society, and holds a RIMS Fellow from the Risk and Insurance Management Society.
